Physiotherapy on Otley Street, Skipton
Back to moving, without the guesswork
Three chartered physiotherapists who take the time to find out why it hurts, treat it with you, and show you what to do at home.

What we treat
Most of what walks through our door
If you are not sure whether physiotherapy is the right thing, ring us. We will tell you honestly.
Sports injuries
Sprained ankles, pulled hamstrings, runner's knee and shoulders that object to the weekend's cricket, treated with a plan back to your sport.
Back and neck pain
Sudden or long-standing, we find what is driving it and give you a way out that does not depend on us.
Rehabilitation after surgery
Knee and hip replacements, ligament repairs and shoulder surgery, working alongside your consultant's plan.
Desk and posture assessments
For stiff necks and aching wrists that start at work, with changes you can make on Monday morning.
Your first visit
How a first visit goes
It lasts an hour, so nobody is rushed. Wear something you can move in: shorts or leggings and a vest top are ideal.
We listen
We ask how it started, what makes it better or worse, and what you want to get back to, whether that is the Three Peaks or picking up your grandchildren.
We look
We watch how you move, test strength and joints, and explain in plain words what we think is going on and how long it usually takes.
We start
Treatment begins the same day, with hands-on work where it helps and two or three exercises you will actually do, written down to take home.
Who you will see
Three physiotherapists, one practice
You see the same person each time, unless you would rather not.

Ruth Atkinson
Founder, back and neck pain
Opened Northfield in 2009 after twelve years at Airedale General. Still treats four days a week.

Claire Whitaker
Musculoskeletal and post-surgery rehabilitation
MSc in advanced physiotherapy, and the one to see after a knee or hip replacement.

Tom Ridley
Sports injuries
Physio to Skipton RUFC on Saturdays and a fell runner the rest of the time.
From our patients
What people tell us afterwards
I had put up with my back for two years. Ruth explained it in ten minutes better than anyone had before, and six weeks later I was gardening again.
Janet MoorhouseEmbsay Tom got me from a torn calf to the start line of the Yorkshireman in eleven weeks, and he was honest about the two weeks I would have to sit out.
Daniel FirthFell runner, Gargrave After my knee replacement Claire gave me exercises I could do in the kitchen. I was walking the canal towpath before my six-week check.

Not sure if we can help? Ask us first.
Ring or write with a few lines about what is going on. A physiotherapist will reply, not a receptionist, and if we are not the right people we will tell you who is.
